New Zealanders are highly creative people. Like the rest of the country, Auckland is enjoying the limelight as a result of its international success, which has created the perfect setting and impetus to accelerate the growth of this industry.
Within Auckland there is a diverse range of companies working in the various creative sectors - film, television, advertising, multi media games, music and fashion design. Most of these businesses are small compared to global competitors, but are recognised for being flexible, creative and unique - willing to compete with the best and the rest of the world.
The majority of the activity in the Auckland region occurs in Auckland city, where 79 per cent of the region's creative sector empoyment is. The creative sector’s stand-alone contribution to Auckland city’s GDP is estimated at over $1.7 billion for 2006, 7 per cent of the city's total GDP. The creative sector is an investment opportunity waiting to be grasped.
