Auckland companies were recognised as international leaders at the 2009 World Travel Awards held last month in London. Auckland Airpor was voted Australasia's Leading Airport and Skycity in Auckland took out the title of Australasia’s leading casino resort.
Auckland International Airport beat other finalists; Melbourne Airport, Nadi International Airport, Sydney Airport, Tahiti Faa'a International Airport and Wellington International Airport to take out the leading award.
This recent acknowledgement joins Auckland Airport’s recent ranking as one of the top 10 airports in the world, and the best airport in the Australia Pacific region in the 2009 independent Skytrax World Airport awards.
Founded in 1993 and described by the Wall Street Journal as the ‘Oscars’ of the global travel and tourism industry, The World Travel Awards is recognised as a premier event which acknowledges, honours and salutes excellence in the global travel and tourism industry.
National airline Air New Zealand was also a winner, scooping the title of Australasia's leading airline.
