Rugby World Cup 2011

In 2011 Auckland will come alive like never before.

Auckland will be the hub of Rugby World Cup 2011 with the final already confirmed at Eden Park on the weekend of October 22-23. New Zealand’s largest city-region is also likely to host the semi finals of the tournament.

Auckland’s new look 60,000 seat Eden Park will combine a century of rugby tradition with world-class facilities for players, fans and officials. The region’s other major rugby venues, Mt Smart Stadium and North Harbour Stadium are also bidding to host matches during Rugby World Cup 2011.

A redeveloped waterfront, revitalised city centre, new roads and upgraded public transport are just some of the projects underway to prepare Auckland for 2011, with much more to come.

Auckland’s key players are already working together to ensure we play our part in making Rugby World Cup 2011 the best ever. A regional steering group has been set up to ensure that there is coordination across the region. It brings together key organisations in a collaborative approach to maximise the opportunities from RWC2011, and to ensure we play our part in making the 2011 event the best ever.

Steering group vision:
The Rugby World Cup 2011 is a landmark global event that showcases Auckland’s unique identity and innovative style, delivers enduring benefits for all Aucklanders and confirms the emergence of the region as a capable international events destination.
