Media Connections

While the overall marketing spend of $NZ 2.5 billion a year is small by world standards, New Zealand's media environment is a complex one.

In the mix are 6,000 magazine titles, 300 cinema screens, 200 radio stations, over 45 TV channels and more than 100 metropolitan and community newspapers. The New Zealand media can be grouped into five categories:

National - National - Network TV (TVNZ, Maori TV, TV 3, Prime, Sky); Network radio - National Radio, The Radio Network (Newstalk ZB, Radio Sport), RadioWorks (Radio Pacific, Radio Live); Sunday newspapers; National Business Review; Independent Business Weekly; weekly magazines (NZ Listener, TV Guide)

Metropolitan/provincial - Daily metropolitan and provincial newspapers - eg NZ Herald, Waikato Times, Christchurch Press, Taranaki Daily News; provincial TV (Canterbury, Wellington, Nelson, Waikato, Taranaki, Triangle (Auckland));

Local/community - Local radio stations (Radio BOP to Iwi radio); community newspapers and giveaways; Family Television Network FTN (Rodney);

Trade/business & management/consumer/lifestyle - Weekly, monthly and quarterly magazines - eg Management, Unlimited, North and South, NZ Business, Autocar, Computerworld, NZ Building Today, Hospitality, NZ Manufacturer, NZ Pharmacy, Architecture NZ, Urbis, NZ Woman's Weekly, Metro (Auckland), Antarctic, NZ Geographic, Pavement, Cuisine;
